Laura Kocs graduated from the "Babes-Bolyai" University in Cluj Napoca, Romania, and obtained a Ph.D. in Physics with emphasis onto solid state physics. Laura collaborates with Reinhard Skuhra Weise & Partner in an of-counsel capacity. In 2002 she qualified as a patent agent with the USPTO, and till present has acquired as well more than 4 years professional experience with prosecuting matters before the EPO.

Laura's practice focuses on patent counseling including prosecution and procurement of US and European patents, and assistance with litigation matters.

She handles complex prosecution matters including prosecution before the USPTO and the EPO, re-examination requests, reissue applications, and appeals before the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences and the Boards of Appeal of the European Patent Office.

Laura also performs third party patent analysis for freedom to operate matters, validity, or infringement concerns. Laura specializes in providing strategic IP counseling and patent portfolio management expertise to companies. In her role as an in-house patent agent at one large US telecommunications company, she has built and managed a large U.S. and foreign patent portfolio.

Laura also performs patent due diligence. Laura has significant technical expertise in the fields of telecommunications, wireless networks, materials, semiconductor physics, processing, transistors, optoelectronic devices, lasers, medical devices, and optical systems.

Her other areas of expertise include fuel cells, computer architecture and networks, software, e-commerce systems, Internet-related technologies, and automotive technologies.
