Our annual IP Fachseminar, held on November 15, 2024, at the beautiful Seehaus München, was a remarkable success. This seminar brought together IP professionals from various sectors, including patent attorneys, corporate lawyers, and R&D leaders, for a day filled with rich discussions and practical insights.
The focus of this year´s seminar, „The Art of Oral Proceedings,“ offered participants strategic, technical, and legal perspectives essential for effective IP negotiations. The day was structured around six insightful presentations, each addressing critical aspects of IP litigation and negotiations, with themes ranging from preparation for oral proceedings to the unique challenges posed by digital hearings.
A highlight of the seminar was the keynote presentation by Dr. Graham Ashley, former chair of an EPO Board of Appeal. Dr. Ashley shared invaluable perspectives on conducting efficient oral proceedings, drawing from his extensive experience in IP law and adjudication. His presentation offered attendees practical tools for improving their negotiation effectiveness, with a particular focus on the procedural intricacies and judicial expectations within the IP framework.
Following Dr. Ashley’s keynote, other presentations covered various pertinent topics, including effective preparation strategies by Dr. Stephan Tatzel, and the potential of digital hearings presented by Dr. Christoph Hecht. Franz Stangl provided insights into managing third-party participation during hearings, while Wolfgang Sandmann concluded with reflections from his extensive practice in IP law.
The seminar was an opportunity not only for learning but also for professional exchange. With dedicated time for Q&A sessions, networking breaks, and an interactive final discussion, participants were able to engage directly with the experts and with each other, gaining practical takeaways applicable to their daily work.
