Presentation Topics
Mr. Eiji Kimura will discuss the European initiatives to enhance patent filings by universities and how patents contribute to bridging the gap between academic research and commercialization—commonly referred to as the „European Paradox.“ His presentation will also cover key findings from the European Patent Office (EPO) report on university patent activity (October 2024) and explore policy measures that have contributed to an increase in academic patent applications, including:
- Strengthening Knowledge Transfer Offices (KTOs)
- Abolishing professor’s privilege
- Implementing various policy programs
- Strengthening ties with Public Research Organizations (PROs)
Additionally, Mr. Kimura will provide a brief introduction to “Deep Tech Finder,” a tool for identifying European universities and startups with patenting activities, which may play a role in overcoming the European Paradox.
Dr. Tobias Rossteuscher will discuss the key differences between the European Patent Office (EPO) and the German Patent and Trademark Office (DPMA) in patent examination. His presentation will highlight how the content of a patent application can influence the choice of the most suitable office for filing. He will also provide practical advice on drafting patent applications tailored to each office’s examination practices.
This seminar will be highly beneficial for professionals engaged in intellectual property (IP), technology transfer, and innovation policy, offering insights into European patenting trends and strategies.
We look forward to your participation!
Your isarpatent® team.
